Joann Rea has been capturing the nuances of nature and the environment in paint for over 35 years, successfully showing and selling her work through a number of galleries across the country. Born in St Louis, Missouri, Rea began to show her unique artistic talent at the tender age of five when she interpreted the faces and surroundings of her childhood home.

Although much encouraged by friends and family, throughout the 1950's and 1960's, Rea never formally studied art. She graduated from the University of Missouri/Columbia in 1967 with a degree in Elementary Education and taught school for three years in Madison, Wisconsin. During these years, Rea continued to casually draw and paint in oils for her own enjoyment.

After relocating to Stillwater, Oklahoma in 1970, Rea became the student of renowned master landscape painter, Jacques Hans Gallrein, who was then 88 years old. He expressed much enthusiasm in her attention to detail and extraordinary use of color, strongly encouraging her seek a serious career in painting.

Rea's first solo exhibition was at Missouri's historic Winston Churchill Memorial in 1986. Since then, she has been featured in solo exhibitions throughout the United States and Japan.
